William Martin papers, 1807-1888.

Journal, 1807-1888, documenting Martin's work as itinerant Methodist minister, traveling South Carolina, visiting families in religious district, preaching, attending funerals, baptisms, traveling to North Carolina, and 1844 trip to New York with his wife, Margaret Maxwell Martin. Volume also contains journal entries, 1852-1860, re questions about God and religion, ministry schedules, and preaching; and diary entries, 1861-1888, re religious visitation, lists of sermons preached while president of Columbia College, and 1887 account of W. Martin's religious relations with D[aniel] B. Miller and his family. Also including letter, 6 Dec. 1837, Columbia, S.C., from Margaret Maxwell Martin, to William Martin, Pocotaligo, S.C., re M.M. Martin's activities as a school mistress, social activities, and family affairs.

From a small beginning in May 1932, the Methodist Crusaders Choir, then with 75 choristers, was hurriedly formed and made its first public appearance at the General Conference Meetings of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It is primarily a hymn-singing choir, and the devoted members feel that the main purpose in their coming together is to spread the gospel message of the Church by means of song.
